The Promised Land

Every third Saturday of the month marks a trip to my second home, Bellingen. The markets are a perfect excuse for a bit of travel, a bit of cake, a bit of relaxation and a bit of family.

Since I missed yesterday's blog post, I spent the day with the D300 around my neck and inconspicuously took some shots of my day :)

Welcome to Bellingen ! It's an alternative town on the way to Dorrigo, which is all national parks and rainforest and waterfalls.

The markets are spread over the big football field / oval and the surrounding tree'd area, which you cross two little bridges to get too.

There's heaps of fantastic stalls. Friends of ours have a regular wool, spinning and knitting shop full of bright and funky hats and home spun wool. Behind it is a stall that always has 3 long tables of vintage jewellery, and a big pile of vintage clothes for you to riffle through.

These guys have been there the last few markets - they are a mobile coffee bar [ i guess you would call them ], and are 100% earth efficient - they run off solar and wind, and use all biodegradable products, fair trade and organic coffee, as well as like 5 other cool things I can't remember. Fantastic !

While I had my nose stuck in the Vinyl store looking for some Style Council or The Jam records my collection is missing [ i found one, but it was scratched :( ] Mum went for a walk and bought us these awesome fair trade felted dogs ! Hers is called Digby, and I think i'll call mine Pai [but pronounce it pie !].

After some serious market treking you get pretty hungry ! We stopped in the Hearthfire for some of their awesome Olive Sourdough made on site and some fresh rocket, roasted tomato, zesty moist fetta and sweet balsamic. Mmmmm - mmm !!!

When we were all towened out, we headed into the mountains to visit my Uncle and his partner in the house he built with the best breeze and view.

On the drive there we stopped the car to watch a huge Goanna run across the road and climb the nearest tree. They're so powerful !

The last stop before we headed home was a trip through The Promised Land and to a fabulous secret swimming hole :) It's so beautiful, these pictures don't do it justice. I have some film prints that do, I should find them and post them.

I snapped a couple of Instax's too, i'll post those tomorrow when I find my Instax collection from this year and start uploading it for the 52 weeks of instax challenge [stay tuned for more !]

Is there a place that you think is magical and love?

Stranger.

  1. Wow the deck on your uncles house is amazing. Must be lovely to sit out there at night with a drink and company. Lovely. I used to think along the fence up the back of my house behind a huge group of bushes was magical. I used to hide up there for hours. It was awesome. lol.
